Abstract: The first year of Pomerania’s affiliation to the reborn Poland, 1920, was marked by economic problems and the weakness of Polish statehood, which was largely created from scratch. This raised the role of the army, which played a fundamental role in the takeover of Pomerania in January and February 1920. This article analyzes the causes and symptoms of the tensions that existed between the army and both the civil authorities and society in general, which contributed to the slowdown in the pace of Pomerania’s integration with Poland in the first years of independence.
