Wettability Behavior of Calcium Ferrite and Andradite Titanium on Magnetite and Vanadium-Titanium Magnetite Substrates at 1523 K

Abstract: For the sintering process of vanadium-titanium magnetite (VTM), the wetting behavior of molten andradite titanium (AT) and calcium ferrite (CF) on VTM is crucial for understanding the sintering mechanism of VTM. In this study, it was observed that CF/AT exhibited superior wetting behavior on the pure M substrate compared with VTM. The limitation step in the wetting process appeared to be reaction-controlled diffusion. The wetting characteristics of AT on VTM substrates displayed notable limitations, resulting in the formation of perovskite and impeding the fluidic motion of the liquid phase. This observation underscores AT’s inability to effectively mitigate the challenge posed by the inadequate generation of the liquid phase during VTM sintering. The preferential wetting of CF on VTM promoted the assimilation process within the entire system, suppressing perovskite formation and facilitating the transformation of CF into a needle-like morphology. These findings provide valuable insights into enhancing the utilization of VTM sintering processes in the future.
