Polysémie du mot PAROLE dans les expressions du français médiéval et les emplois en français moderne

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: . The word parole is used in medieval texts with a notorious polysemy which means that it replaces any word connoting the act of speech. Taking into account the realities of the context which values orality and the etymology of the word which is fundamentally linked to a religious meaning, the word parole is very common in old French with this religious denotation which is certainly less apparent but which persists in modern French in the sense of truth and promise. This study of the different meanings focuses more on the expressions of the word parole in medieval French, which allows us to see the extensions of meaning in the expressions of modern French in comparison with the original meanings. It allows us to explain the semantic gaps noted in its semantic evolution.
