Partial Least Squares modeling was used to estimate the model parameters, and the sample is composed of companies in the manufacturing industry of the BRICS countries, in the period from 2012 to 2017. The key results are that market power and competitive position influence firm performance, and the task environment doesnot significantly influence competitive position, market power, and performance. Firms that increase their market power and improve their competitive position tend to perform better in different macroeconomic environments and degrees of competition.
