Abstract: In the version of the article initially published, the Supplementary information was incomplete, and the amended Supplementary information can now be found alongside the online version of the article. The new section in the Supplementary information (Section 11) discusses evidence for the exfoliation of free-standing goldene. Microscopy analysis reveals the presence of goldene sheets with rippling and confirms their free-standing nature. This observation aligns with theoretical predictions and the characteristic behaviour of other atomically thin free-standing 2D materials. These data and related discussion were previously provided in a response-to-referees document; however, we now wish to make these details available in the Supplementary information to further support the main findings of this work.
