State and Statehood Process in Afghanistan: Challenges in the Region in the Post-Cold War Period (In the Context of International, Regional and Local Dimensions)

Type: article
Abstract: Afghanistan's new state formation after the American occupation is the fifth state formation process in Afghanistan's political history. The aim of this study is to analyse the characteristics and variables of Afghanistan's new state-building process, which was shaped in the light of new events in the international system and in the eyes of foreign powers. Therefore, the main question of the study is how Afghanistan's state-building policies have been shaped after 11 September. It seems that recent developments and the fall of the Taliban have unleashed key forces that have been suppressed for years and provided them with a favourable opportunity to gain a greater share of the power of the government in Kabul. This has ensured that developments in Afghanistan are linked to the interests and considerations of neighbouring countries and the region. Thus, any success or failure in the progress of the state-nation building process in Afghanistan requires attention to the threats posed by the developments, which in the future may confront the countries of the region with special risks to their national security.
