Abstract: The companion volume of Common European framework of reference for languages from 2018 (CEFR CV) stresses the importance of mediating a text, concepts and communication in (foreign) language acquisition. Due to the diversity of cultures and education systems, it is the relational mediation that seems to be the biggest challenge for Chinese students of Polish Studies, who are not used to negotiating meanings, collaborating in groups or managing interaction. Based on the examples of the correspondence between students and lecturers and observations taken during translation classes, the authors discuss specific areas which turn out to be problematic in the field of student–lecturer and student–student mediation in the process of translation skills’ training for Chinese students.
