Abstract: This study investigates social support's impact on Chinese college students' subjective wellbeing. It explores the mediating roles of academic self-efficacy and basic psychological needs.A random sample of 1,335 college students from various universities in China was selected for a linear regression analysis to examine these relationships. The findings indicate that robust social support networks significantly enhance students' well-being, particularly when actively engaged. The study also reveals that academic self-efficacy and basic psychological needs play critical roles in the benefits derived from social support. It appears that social support not only meets basic psychological needs but also significantly contributes to greater overall well-being.Furthermore, the effective utilization of social support facilitates the development of superior coping mechanisms for stress and challenges.Enhancing security and confidence promotes a more positive attitude towards life's adversities. The insights gained from this study suggest that developing mental health interventions to improve support systems's utilization could significantly enhance happiness and resilience among students. These interventions should foster strong social support networks and enhance students' self-efficacy.This study provides valuable implications for designing and implementing effective mental health strategies that promote social support networks and self-efficacy among students.
