Abstract: With the depletion of petroleum resources and the in-depth implementation of the “double carbon” goal, the preparation of functional fibers/membranes using natural polymer cellulose, keratin and chitosan as raw materials is of great significance for efficient utilization of resources, improvement of ecological environment and sustainable development. This paper mainly focuses on the research progress of our team about ionic liquids dissolving natural polymer materials and the preparation of functional fibers/membranes. The progress of screening the ionic liquids dissolving natural polymer materials using COSM-RS method and the experimental research and mechanism exploration of ionic liquids dissolving natural polymer materials were summarized. The thermodynamics and kinetics of ionic liquids dissolving natural polymer materials were analyzed in detail. The new process of preparing functional fibers/membranes using ionic liquids as solvent was discussed. The research progress of recovery and recycling of ionic liquids was reviewed. The challenges and trends of ionic liquids dissolving natural polymers and preparation of functional fibers/membranes were presented.
