Abstract: Objective: To determine the impact of safety alerts on the pattern of use and prescription of medications in hospitals in Lima, period 2018-2023. Method: A quantitative approach was used, with an observational type, comparative descriptive level, cross-sectional and retrospective design. Four Digemid Alerts that restricted the use of Ibuprofen, Naproxen, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics were analyzed. Their impact on the second variable "pattern of use and prescription of medications" was evaluated through the consumption rates recorded during the study period for Ibuprofen, Naproxen, and Paracetamol, the latter considered as a possible replacement medication. Results: The results indicate that alerts have led to a significant reduction in the consumption indicator (Defined Daily Dose per 1000 patient-days) of Ibuprofen in one hospital, where the DID decreased from 7.3 to 4.0 after the first alert (p < 0.05). In contrast, another hospital showed a significant increase in Ibuprofen consumption from 9.6 to 22.6 DID. In addition, a replacement shift in the prescribing pattern between Ibuprofen and Paracetamol was observed in one hospital (p < 0.05) after the issuance of an alert. Conclusions: The alerts influence the pattern of use and prescription of non-steroidal analgesics. However, its effectiveness varies depending on the hospital context. Improved communication strategies and ongoing training are needed to optimize the implementation of safety alerts and improve patient safety.
