Abstract: The overcoming of metaphysics is the goal of the early works of Jean-Luc Marion. This goal is undertaken from different paths: theological, historical, and phenomenological. The present work seeks to show that the phenomenological reduction is the method that Marion uses to overcome metaphysics in all the paths undertaken, and not only in the phenomenological texts. To this end, the method with which Marion proposes to overcome the horizon of being in the theological works (L’idole et la distance and Dieu sans l’Être) and historical works (Sur le prisme métaphysique de Descartes) is analyzed and compared with the developments of the reduction in Réduction et donation to demonstrate that even before being named as such, the reduction is the method that Marion uses to overcome metaphysics. In turn, these analyses allow us to establish the genesis of the reduction in Marionian thought.
