Elasto-visco-plastic constitutive modelling of blended flexible-tough resins in vat photopolymerization
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The inherent limitations of tough resins in vat photopolymerization 3D printing, marked by their low flexibility, yield stress, and strain-to-failure properties, present significant challenges for applications demanding effective energy absorption. This study explores the enhancement of energy absorption capabilities and stability in polymeric structures by blending different resin types, aiming to achieve optimal mechanical properties. By blending flexible and tough resins, this research investigates how varying mass ratios of these resins influence critical mechanical parameters such as failure stress, strain, and viscoelastic properties. The developed elastic-visco-plastic constitutive model facilitates the prediction of material behaviour under deformation, guiding the selection of resin blends for specific applications. The findings demonstrate a linear relationship between resin proportions and mechanical responses, validating the model’s applicability to complex lattice structures. These findings contribute to advancing material design for energy-absorbing applications in aerospace, automotive, and packaging industries.
