Abstract: Methods of increasing the profits of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations (ECSs) have been extensively investigated, with the integrated operation of photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems (ESSs) in ECS gaining attention. In this study, the optimal capacities of ESS and the PV system in ECS are determined by independently modeling a power conversion system (PCS) in the ESS design. We analyzed the effect of independently modeling the PCS capacity rather than assuming a certain value for the obtained ECS profit and the optimal capacity of PV and ESS. The nonlinearity caused by the multiplication of variables during PCS modeling was solved using the BIG-M method. A case study was performed to verify the effect of the proposed model on profit increase and optimal capacity determination. The impact of PCS modeling on the results was verified by changing the cost of ESS, load pattern of ECS, and electricity rate. The economic evaluation confirmed the effect of PCS modeling in ESS design on the determination of the optimal capacity of each facility.
