Problems of adapting the linear model of communication when describing dynamic processes (based on studies of communication breakdown in speech interaction)

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The study aims to identify the problems arising from the application of the classical communication model in researching the phenomenon of communication breakdown. The article analyzes the characteristic features of using the classical linear model within existing scientific approaches to the study of breakdown in speech communication, highlighting the methods used by researchers to overcome the limitations imposed by this model. Guided by this goal, the authors identify contradictions inherent in the internal logic of this model, built on binary oppositions, such as a small number of degrees of freedom, rigid determinism, and a high degree of formalization of communicative interaction. The article highlights the specific features of the functioning of the classical model of ideal communication and formulates proposals for using a fundamentally different, synergetic model in the context of communication research. The novelty of the study lies in identifying the critical contradictions characteristic of the logical mechanism in the functioning of the linear communication model. The study established that a consistent description of the communication process requires a model built on fundamentally different descriptive principles, meeting the conditions for understanding communication as an open dissipative system subject to the dynamic influence of the external environment.
