Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The research aims to obtain an interpretation of the origin of the noun “kirije” ‘name’ turning to etymologization of lexemes of the Wadul language (Tundra Yukaghir). The article describes the etymological reconstruction of the lexeme “kirije” ‘name’, made within the vocabulary of the Wadul language, which is one of the most studied Yukaghir languages with a more complete recording of the lexical stock. Along with the interpretation of the word “kirije” ‘name’, onomastic aspects in the Wadul language were considered, apotropaic names were characterized: zoo-anthroponyms, personal names and nicknames. Scientific novelty consists in obtaining new information on the etymology and onomastics of the Wadul language, morphological and word-formation features of its lexical units. As a result of the research, the verbal stem “kirchi-” was revealed as a phonetic variant of the stem “kischi-”, which encodes the semantics of partial execution of an action. In the etymological study of the Yukaghir vocabulary, the etymon “kir- (~kis-)” ‘partially, briefly show’ was determined. The origin of the lexeme “kirije” ‘name’ was interpreted: ‘that which is partially (secretly) shown’. The specificity of naming, associated with the cultural traditions and views of the Yukaghirs, was revealed.
