A case of byssinosis in a yarn factory foreman: an occupational lung disease forgotten over time

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Byssinosis is an occupational pulmonary illness. Crops like cotton, hemp, flax, kapok, jute, sisal, and wool can induce byssinosis. Cotton dust is reported to be the most prevalent agent. Cotton dust can be generated during all stages, from cotton harvesting to garment production. Exposure to textile dust constitutes a major contributor to occupational lung illness globally. The prevalence of byssinosis in affluent nations is steadily declining owing to effective preventive strategies. Nonetheless, it remains a significant issue in underdeveloped nations.
