Abstract: Figure S3. Prevalence of preclinical (undiagnosed) nasopharyngeal carcinoma per 100,000 subjects as a function of age, use of NPC screening, age at screening, and frequency of screening. Values are provided for reference case of Chinese American men and women screened with anti-BNLF2b + nasoendoscopy (strategy D). No screening is plotted in red, whereas once-lifetime screening is plotted in green. A) Once-lifetime screening, varied by age at screening. After once-lifetime screening, the prevalence of preclinical NPC decreases proportional to screening sensitivity, then rises over years as additional cases develop and prevalence returns to that of an unscreened population. B) Repeated screening starting at age 50, varied by interval of screening (once-lifetime versus every 1–5 years). After screening, the prevalence of preclinical NPC decreases proportional to screening sensitivity, then rises until the next screen. For frequent screening (every 1–2 years), the prevalence of preclinical NPC remains low until screening ceases at age 75. Prevalence approaches that of an unscreened population when screening interval exceeds five years. NPC, nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
