Type: article
Abstract: The aim of the work is to examine the diffusion-kinetic dissolution of magnesium from a moving bubble into the melt, taking into account changes in its parameters under local chemical equilibrium. A mathematical description of the diffusion process is provided. The results of calculations are presented for a bubble rising from a depth of 2 meters in the melt at temperatures of 1300°C and 1400°C, under conditions where the sulfur concentration is 0.05% (initial stage of the process) and 0.002% (deep desulfurization mode). The dependencies of bubble radius changes during their ascent in the melt, the changes in the depth of bubble rise, magnesium concentration on their surface, as well as the changes in the mass of magnesium in the bubbles at metal temperatures of 1300°C and 1400°C, are analyzed. A mathematical model for the dissolution of moving magnesium vapor bubbles in the melt is developed, taking into account the chemical equilibrium of sulfur and magnesium concentrations in the metal. The proposed mathematical model provides a theoretical estimate of magnesium vapor losses.
