‘Mijn bibliotheek zal het drievoudige boek van God zijn’. Het boek der natuur in de onderwijsvisie van Jan Amos Comenius (1592-1670)
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This article explores how the metaphor of the world as one of God’s books (book of nature) functions in the work of the 17th-century theologian and educator Jan Amos Comenius. Although the metaphor is frequently used in the Christian tradition in relation to knowledge acquisition, Comenius gives it his own colouring. For him, it is a key element of his innovative educational agenda. Comenius’ use of the book metaphor is explored and evaluated from both a pedagogical and a theological perspective.
