Abstract: The article provides a detailed analysis of the confrontation between the West and Russia in the Ukrainian issue since 2014. The author analyzes the peculiarities of the Russian policy on Ukraine and points out its strengths and weaknesses. The article gives a detailed characterization of the Western strategy towards Ukraine, discusses the reasons why Western diplomacy has been more successful and was able to achieve the detachment of Ukraine from Russia and create conditions for an armed confrontation.
