Abstract: How You Treat Prostatitis Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia withAcupuncture and/or Chinese Herbs P rostatitis is a urological dysfunction characterized by varying degrees of pelvic pain or discomfort, as well as lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and is most prominent in the elderly.Symptoms of prostatitis can resemble those of benign prostatic hyperplasia, with overlapping LUTS.These symptoms can be categorized into storage symptoms, such as urgency, frequency, nocturia, and urge incontinence; voiding symptoms, which include reduced flow and incomplete emptying; and post-void symptoms, such as dribbling after urination.1,2 According to modern scientific papers, conventional treatments for prostatitis, including alpha-blockers, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory medications, often yield only modest improvements in physiological function. In contrast, acupuncture may provide a valuable alternative. As a nonpharmacological intervention, acupuncture encompasses a broad range of therapeutic techniques, including needling, moxibustion, and other forms of acupoint stimulation.2 According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the primary underlying cause of chronic pelvic pain and chronic pelvic pain syndrome is predominantly linked to kidney (Shen) imbalance. The main pathogenic factors identified include Yin deficiency accompanied by heat, as well as stagnation of Qi and blood stasis.3
