Abstract: Housing First is one of the best-researched and documented approaches to ending homelessness, grounded in the human right to adequate housing. It is precisely because of this foundation and numerous evidence of effectiveness that Housing First is supported by international and European policies on human rights and the fight against poverty. This paper presents key evidence in support of the effectiveness of this approach related to the outcomes of exit from homelessness and housing stability, improvement of mental health, quality of life and cost-effectiveness of interventions. The available research provides convincing evidence of the advantages of the Housing First approach compared to traditional approaches in terms of the effectiveness of exiting homelessness and the stability of housing, as well as the improvement of the quality of life, assessed by various parameters. Regarding the improvement of mental health and the cost-effectiveness of interventions, the results are mixed.
