Type: article
Abstract: Varma Maruthuvam, a branch of Siddha Medicine, employs external medicine to manage various Enbu Murivu (Musculoskeletal conditions). Despite its popularity, there is a lack of comprehensive documentation on the external medicines opted in Varma Maruthuvam for fracture management. This literature review aims to compile and document the external medicines used in Varma Maruthuvam for Enbu Murivu, exploring their ingredients, preparation methods, and applications. A thorough search of traditional Varma literature was conducted to identify relevant information. The review reveals a range of External Medicines, including Ottradam, Poochu, Nasiyam, Oothal, Thaarai, and Potanam, etc., used to promote fracture healing, reduce pain and inflammation, and enhance functional recovery. The documented medicines and their applications provide a foundation for further research and standardization of Varma Maruthuvam practices. This review contributes to preserving traditional knowledge and promotes the integration of Varma Maruthuvam into modern healthcare practices, offering a complementary approach to fracture management.
