Multi-Media Field Test: Sleep Better With Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy: CBT-i Coach Provides Support for Insomnia
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The effectiveness of evidence-based treatments depends on their availability and delivery. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is an effective treatment for sleep-related problems. Such problems are commonly experienced among military and veteran populations. CBT-i Coach is a free app intended to supplement clinician-delivered CBT-I with additional tools. It was designed with a focus on military personnel and veterans but could be relevant for any adult experiencing insomnia symptoms and receiving CBT-I. The app offers four features: Sleep Diary, Tools, Learn, and Assessments . Some studies have supported the adherence to CBT-i treatment and the reduction of insomnia symptoms with the use of CBT-i Coach, but these studies had small sample sizes and other limitations. Its user experience is both intuitive and user-friendly. Using a scale ranging from 1 (poor) to 5 (outstanding), we rated CBT-i Coach a 5 in appropriateness of content, a 3 in research evidence, a 4 in utility, and a 4 in overall ease of use. This review of CBT-i Coach is an independent expert review and is a part of C&BP’s “Multi-Media Field Test” series of reviews on the latest media and tech resources.
