Abstract: Based on the premise that enunciation has the role of evoking the relevance of utterances to discursively constituted realities (Dias, 2018), this article aims to understand the referential as the element from which the basis of meaning is built. Based on the analysis of some utterances and nominal formations, such as “skin color”, we show that the connection between words and things takes place through meaning, in the search for understanding the meanings and the enunciative circumstances that generate their relevance in the event.
