Abstract: The Ottoman archives are a priceless treasury of documents. Written sources in the Ottoman Turkish language represent the largest share of documentation devoted to the history, language, and culture of our past. In the Ottoman Empire, the official language is Turkish. The script is Arabic, which the Turks adopted along with the Islamic religion from the Arabs. The documents that appeared as a result of the activities of the Ottoman institutions and establishments, as well as the various manuscripts and epigraphic inscriptions of that time, were written in Arabic script. The study of Ottoman Turkish written sources is a complex process and requires well-trained specialists. This article presents the features that researchers should consider when reading and analyzing Ottoman Turkish texts.
