Comparative Investigation of The Impact of Instrument Taper on Fracture Resistance of Endodontically Treated Teeth: An In Vitro Study
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: This study sought to determine how instrument taper affected endodontically treated roots' ability to withstand fractures in an in vitro experimental setting.METHODS: At a distance of roughly 15 mm from the apex, 40 mandibular first premolars were sectioned in total. One control group (n = 10) and three experimental groups (n = 10) were each randomly distributed.Group 2 used a Hyflex EDM rotary file (40/.06),Group 3 used a Neoendo Neohybrid rotary file (40/.04), and Group 4 acted as an uninstrumented control. The roots in Group 1 were instrumented with hand files up to file (40/.02).The roots were mechanically prepared, then sealed and obturated using gutta-percha.Using a universal testing machine, a vertical load will be applied to each specimen until the roots shatter.STATISTICAL ANALYSIS-Data was gathered and examined statistically.RESULTS: The control group's mean fracture load was 357.47 ± 110.54 N, group 1's was 338.86 ± 105.23 N, group 2's was 297.74 ± 77.31 N, and group 3's was 280.10 ± 68.51 N. The only difference that was statistically significant (P <.05) was between group 3 and the control group.CONCLUSIONS: Following endodontically treated roots' instrumentation with hand files up to file 40/.02 and rotary files up to files 40/.04 and 40/.06,only the latter one seemed to alter the roots' resistance to fracture.
