Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Introduction: With the increasing concern for environmental problems and the increasing pressure from the authorities, SSCM has become essential to enhance the supply chain performance and minimize the impact on the environment.Green supply chain management is an answer to the problems of ecological responsibility and organizational performance that may lead to the improvement of cost advantage and effectiveness. Objective: The aim of this research is to evaluate the effect of green practices including energy conservation, waste minimization and green purchasing on operational performance across the sectors.Method: This research employs both structured questionnaires and case studies as the method of research.A survey of 250 professionals in the field of supply chain from various industries assessed the extent and efficiency of green practices. On the same note, case studies provided more information on the problems and benefits of implementation. Results: The quantitative results revealed that green practices were significantly linked with operational performance. The most significant variable was energy efficiency, (β = 0. 45, p < 0. 001), then waste reduction (β = 0. 38, p < 0. 001) and sustainable sourcing (β = 0. 32, p = 0. 002).Quantitative data was also supported by qualitative data for advantages and disadvantages such as high initial cost and difficulty in implementation. Conclusion: Environmental management enhances organizational performance with energy management being the most effective. This research acknowledges the need to incorporate sustainability in supply chain management but at the same time acknowledges the need for planning to deal with the challenges of implementation.
