Deep brain stimulation of the medial forebrain bundle: Effects on anhedonia and behavioral activation in treatment-resistant depression
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Over the last two decades, deep brain stimulation (DBS) has emerged as a treatment option for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Target brain regions include, among others, the subcallosal cingulate cortex (SCC), the ventral capsule/ventral striatum (VC/VS), and the nucleus accumbens (NaS). While initial open-label trials yielded promising results, subsequent randomized controlled trials showed inconsistent findings [1].
