Una aproximación al terrorismo de extrema derecha en la actualidad: etnicidad, nacionalismo, religión y redes sociales

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Right-wing extremist violence and terrorism have been on the rise in recent years. Events such as the attacks in Oslo and Utoya (Norway) in 2011, the assault on the US Capitol in 2021, the shooting in Buffalo (USA) in 2022 or the attacks in Christchurch (New Zealand) in 2019 are examples of this new growing drift at a global level. Although classic elements of the terrorist phenomenon are repeated in this new typology, the massive use of social networks as an element of radicalization, organization and propaganda means that its main ideological points (ethnicity, nation, religion and the defense of traditional values) have a greater resonance chamber than previous waves of international terrorism. This article will review the role that ethnicity, nation and religion play in constituting the ideological bases of some radicalized extreme right-wing groups or individuals, thus constituting a first approximation to a currently significant panorama.
