Abstract: Nowadays, Off-Axis Helmet Mounted Displays (OA-HMDS) find applications in various fields such as industry, medicine, military, entertainment, and education. The refractive type of these displays has become less popular primarily due to its limited ability to efficiently transmit light from the image source and its restricted spectral range for outdoor scenes. These limitations have contributed to its decreased popularity. Here, we propose an effective solution to address this issue, which relies on the use of efficient polarization converters and a PBS coating. Our design stands out due to its simplicity, potential for commercialization, and enhanced optical efficiency, incorporating a compact projection module and a spherical collimator. This configuration provides users with a monocular field of view measuring 50 degrees diagonally, 40 degrees horizontally, and 30 degrees vertically. Furthermore, our design features a 10 mm entrance pupil diameter and a generous eye relief of 76.5 mm, enabling users to comfortably use additional equipment beneath their visors. Additionally, our system has been designed to operate reliably within a wide temperature range spanning from -40°C to +70°C and achieves a diffraction-limited resolution of 1920×1200 WUXGA.
