Abstract: The article discusses migration strategies of the population over the working age in Russia and foreign countries. A comparative analysis of statistical data on the inbound and outbound flows of internal migration of this category of population in the Russian Federation has been performed. The features of regional differentiation of migration, as well as the intensity of migration of the population over the working age, are revealed. It is noted that the migration of the population over the working age is increasing numerically, but its share in the composition of migration flows remains stable. The internal migration of Russian pensioners is predominantly female in terms of its gender composition. Its main focus is migration movements between cities, whereas foreign pensioners mainly migrate from the city to the countryside. Among the causes of migration movements of people over the working age, special attention is paid to returning to their historical homeland and reuniting with their family. It is noted that family migration is typical for most European countries, and changes in migration strategies of the population over working age are associated not only with differences in the level and lifestyle of retirement in different countries, but also with the fact that the studied population category itself is changing qualitatively, it is becoming more adaptive and active.
