Abstract: Preparation for professional practice and dealing with communicative challenges in the context of academic and professional mobility ensure – beyond academic education – a wide range of courses for job-related language support at language schools. This article takes a look at the special knowledge and skills required in the university communication environment in order to highlight some of the challenges of acquiring German as an academic language and to emphasize the importance of writing support during studies, based on the importance of academic writing skills as a teaching and learning objective.
