Year: 2024
Type: article
Study designs: Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis
Abstract: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has emerged as a promising non-invasive technique to enhance neuroplasticity and recovery in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). This meta-analysis evaluates the efficacy of tDCS in cognitive and motor recovery across multiple studies. Data from various randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were synthesized to assess its impact on memory, executive function, strength, and coordination. Significant improvements were observed in cognitive and motor domains, with long-term benefits in quality of life. However, heterogeneity in study designs and tDCS protocols underscores the need for standardized guidelines. This study highlights the potential of tDCS as an adjunct therapy in TBI rehabilitation.
