Abstract: Sedimentological and geotechnical studies of Kaliakra Cape reveal the presence of specific sediments, carbonate tempestites, which are not found elsewhere in Northеastern Bulgaria. This fact allows a reinterpretation of the geological situation at the cape, suggesting a new structural model. The Sarmatian carbonate tempestites belong to a separate block, thrusted over the carbonate stromatolites and thrombolites of the Odartsi Formation (middle Bessarabian) and then covered by the Mactra limestones of the Karvuna Formation (middle Khersonian).
