Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activity of 2-(substituted)-4-[2-(10-p-chlorobenzyl) phenothiazinyl]-6-(substituted aryl)pyrimidines

Abstract: A series of novel 2-(substituted)-4-[2-(10-pchlorobenzyl)phenothiazinyl]-6-(substituted aryl)pyrimidines have been synthesized by cyclocondensation of chalcones, obtained by the interaction of 2-acetyl phenothiazine with substituted aromatic aldehydes, with urea, thiourea, and guanidine. Structures of title compounds were elucidated by their IR, 1H NMR spectral data, molecular weight determination, and microanalyses. Antimicrobial activities against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria were evaluated by the Filter Paper Disc Method.
