Abstract: The paper presents the development and use of the term noun phrase in modern German studies. First, the origin and development of the term and concept are presented. Subsequently, the author discusses the results of a survey carried out among students and teaching staff of Polish German studies, as well as a study including the available Internet sources. The aim was to check to what extent the terminology pertaining to the nominal phrase, which is largely borrowed from the English-language linguistics, is known and used. Unfortunately, the analysis showed a relatively low degree of knowledge and the use of some terms in Polish studies of the German language.
