Gastric Cancer Actively Remodels Mechanical Microenvironment to Promote Chemotherapy Resistance via MSCs‐Mediated Mitochondrial Transfer (Adv. Sci. 47/2024)

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Gastric Cancer The cover image shows Earth representing a gastric cancer (GC) cell, surrounded by multiple satellites symbolizing mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in the tumor microenvironment. Numerous meteors, representing the chemotherapy drug oxaliplatin (OXA), are heading toward Earth. However, spacecraft from the satellites (mitochondrial transfer) create a protective shield, altering the path of the meteors and preventing the collision. This artwork vividly captures Yulong He, Andy Peng Xiang, Jiancheng Wang, and co-workers' discovery that mitochondrial transfer from MSCs to GC cells restores mitochondrial function, reduces mitophagy, and leads to OXA resistance.
