Abstract: This paper studies the changes and continuities in the episcopal house of the archbishop of Zaragoza, Don Juan de Aragón (1520-1530). This is due to the fact that he received the mitre on the death of Don Alonso de Aragón, being one of the few cases in the Spanish Church in which a son succeeded his father. By means of a wide variety of documents, mainly notarial, the principal figures of this household are identified and several questions are brought to light. Firstly, although Don Juan had far less income than his predecessor, he managed to maintain a household worthy of admiration, both for the number of servants and for the very high quality of its musicians. Secondly, there is a certain predominance of religious men in the house, unlike in the previous period, when there were a higher percentage of knights. Thirdly, Don Juan used intensively the diocese to reward his servants. Fourth and last, the maintenance of some of his father’s servants but changed of the main positions, possibly due to the exhaustion of a generation. All this shows a series of adaptations to a different political period in which Don Juan and his biological family had lost much of their past dominance.
