Enhancement of Low Solubility and Low Permeability Drug Azithromycin Using Crystallization Techniques
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic, has poor solubility and low bioavailability, limiting its therapeutic effectiveness. This review explores crystallization techniques- — cooling crystallization to enhance its solubility and permeability. These methods improve dissolution rates, bioavailability, and permeability across biological membranes. Challenges like stability, regulatory concerns, and manufacturing scalability are discussed. Future research should focus on refining these techniques and combining them with other delivery strategies to optimize Azithromycin’s clinical efficacy.
