Response to Letter to the Editor “Military Contributions to Damage Control Training in Civilian Setting” by Jarrassier et al.

Abstract: We thank Dr Jarrassier and his colleagues for their comments on our article. We also thank the editors for the opportunity to respond. At the time we conducted the survey, we were aware of the two military damage control training programs they described: the DC-TAV and the DACAR programs. These programs facilitate the dissemination of military expertise and experience to various professionals, including both military and civilian medical personnel, whether or not they specialize in trauma care. The training programs we described in our study are those that the French Emergency Medical Services reported participating in after the November 2015 Paris attacks. Currently, the number of training sessions is insufficient, and there is too much variation in terms of duration, content, and the level of satisfaction they provide. Our conclusion is that French emergency staff require enriched and standardized training programs. Implementing a standardized training program is challenging because the content, format, and cost need to be adapted to allow for the participation of a large and diverse group of trainees. However, it would offer numerous benefits. It would establish a common language and skill set for all trainees, regardless of their profession or whether they are affiliated with civilian or military sectors, leading to more effective interactions during interventions. Additionally, it would enable unified training across the country, allowing professionals to assist in regions outside their own. We greatly appreciate the response from Dr Jarrassier and his colleagues. We will reach out to our military forces to propose a unified training program for all health care workers in France.
