Abstract: The paper contains two parts, a theory, in which I will try to show what is the role of the conceptual metaphor in the process of learning and teaching a foreign language and how this topic has been treated in specialized research. In the second part I will point out the importance of teaching conceptual metaphor to foreign students learning Romanian and I will propose a set of metaphorical competence exercises.
