The production of ecological gasoline that complies with new environmental requirements at the southern industrial complex in Hassi Messaoud Algeria
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The Hassi Messaoud Refinery (RHM2) currently produces gasoline with high aromatic content (50.08% by volume) and elevated benzene levels (2.40%), failing to meet EURO V standards and posing significant health risks, such as asthma and cancer. The increasing consumption of such fuel further underscores the urgency for a safer alternative. The Objective of this research is to develop an environmentally friendly gasoline that complies with the international environmental standards established by the European Commission (EURO V). To accomplish this, the simulation software ASPEN HYSYS V12.1 was employed, utilizing the alkylation reaction between iso-paraffins and olefins derived from gas sources. The resultant simulated alkylate, labeled as ecological gasoline, is designed to completely eliminate aromatics and benzene while increasing the octane rating. This innovation not only meets stringent environmental guidelines but also paves the way for Algeria to export of high quality gasoline to international markets, thereby positioning itself as a significant contender in the global energy sector.
