Luso-Brazilian Baroque Art: The role of Music in the Design of Architectural Elements in Portugal and its Repercussions in Bahia (Brazil)
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This article is an unpublished contribution that analyses the relationship between baroque architecture and music, with particular emphasis on the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, and other important cities in the country (Coimbra, Guimarães and Torres Vedras). In addition to the Portuguese study, iconographic sources relating to this theme will also be applied to Bahia, in Brazil, thus establishing bridges between the two continents. The article explores two perspectives within the topic of architectural spaces and music: a) the representation of real physical spaces, from Baroque to contemporary times; and b) the copying of European images and/or the artists' fantasy as applied to baroque architecture, in which music also plays a predominant role.
