Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The article is dedicated to the life and work of the military akhun of the Fair Mosque in Nizhny Novgorod, Nugman Kushaev. His service was dedicated to the performance of religious rites among the military ranks from the Muslims of the Nizhny Novgorod province in the middle of the 19th century. An equally important task of military imams was to bring all Muslims in military units to the oath of allegiance to the emperor when the rulers changed, or when new Muslim recruits entered the service. An even more difficult task was to find suitable words for co-religionists during the wars with the Ottoman Empire. Such tasks were set before N. Kushaev during his service in Nizhny Novgorod. For example, it was he who blessed the Tatar soldiers to fight during the Crimean War. For citation: Khamidullin S.R. Nugman Kushaev. Military akhun in the service of the Russian Empire.
