Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of key problems of formation of methodological competence of a teacher, features of his professional self-determination in the educational and upbringing space of the system of secondary vocational education. The advantages and disadvantages of the survey method and the rules of organization of pedagogical monitoring aimed at determining the professional deficit of a teacher in the field of methodological competence, and possible mechanisms for overcoming the identified shortcomings are updated. The results of a sociological study aimed at studying the level of formation of methodological competence of a teacher working in the system of secondary vocational education and identifying didactic barriers that hinder its improvement are presented.
