Rewriting the Meaning of Marriage: Gender Deconstruction Based on Shifting Views of Contemporary Chinese Women
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Marriage rates among young Chinese women are declining based on social survey data. Our research will analyze key drivers behind this demographic shift, from individualist attitudes challenging traditional family concepts and gender roles to the subtle influence of patriarchal views of the family on women. Then we will also discuss whether men recognize shifting perspectives on marriage amongst women, and if their own views on marriage have evolved based on our findings.
