Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: PurposeTourism and hospitality are critical to global economic structures, contributing substantially to GDP and employment.Globally, the tourism sector accounts for 10.4% of GDP and supports around 334 million jobs, underlining its economic significance. In Croatia, the reliance on tourism is particularly pronounced, with the sector contributing 19.6% of GDP and directly employing 6% of the national workforce. The hotel industry, as a vital component of this sector, operates in a labor-intensive environment where employee skills, knowledge, and behaviors are essential for success.Despite this, the sector faces persistent challenges related to high labor costs and employee absenteeism.Absenteeism, defined as habitual or intentional absence from work, disrupts organizational processes, increases costs, reduces productivity, and adversely affects employee morale.
