Abstract: Вопрос изучения природного потенциала территорий всегда актуален ввиду постоянной необходимости получения сырья для дальнейшего развития экономики, особенно в условиях постоянных вызовов, в которых на сегодняшний день находится наша страна. Быть самодостаточным государством, не зависящим от геополитической ситуации, способным самостоятельно решать проблемы хозяйственно-экономического характера – логичная цель в ситуации жесткой санкционной международной повестки. Рациональное отношение к собственным природным ресурсам, применение новейших технологий, создание продукта, «нужного всем», может стать хорошей основой общественного прогресса. В этом смысле обращение к историческому опыту промышленного освоения Северного Кавказа, его существенного скачка в деле освоения природных ресурсов, изучение периодов взлета и падений на этом поприще поможет в поиске оптимальных направлений производственной деятельности. Цель работы состоит в выявлении особенностей влияния российской промышленности на процессы возникновения и развития нефтедобывающей и нефтеперерабатывающей отраслей Терской области в период второй половины XIX - начала XX в. Методологическая основа представлена сравнительно-историческим, системно-структурным и цивилизационным подходами. Исследование опирается на принципы историзма, целостности и объективности. В ходе изучения проблемы были получены следующие результаты: 1) Северный Кавказ рассматривался как территория с богатыми полезными ископаемыми, необходимыми российской экономике; 2) исследования Терской области привели к открытию ценнейших нефтяных месторождений; 3) промышленное освоение региона способствовало возникновению и дальнейшему развитию локальной промышленности, в частности нефтедобывающей и нефтеперерабатывающей отраслей; 4) развитие нефтепромышленного комплекса на основе грозненских нефтеносных месторождений благоприятно отразилось на укреплении позиций российской экономики на мировых ранках. The issue of studying the natural potential of territories is always relevant in view of the constant supply of raw materials for further economic development, especially in the face of constant challenges that our country is currently facing. To be a self-sufficient state, independent of the geopolitical situation, capable of independently solving problems of an economic nature is a logical goal in the situation of severe sanctions on the international agenda. Rational attitude to one's own natural resources, the use of the latest technologies, and the creation of a product that is "necessary for everyone" can become a good basis for social progress. In this sense, referring to the historical experience of the industrial development of the North Caucasus, its significant leap in the development of natural resources, studying the periods of ups and downs in this field will help in finding optimal areas of production activity. The purpose of the work is to identify the peculiarities of the influence of Russian industry on the processes of emergence and development of the oil production and refining industries of the Tersky region during the second half of the XIXth - early XXth centuries. The methodological basis is represented by comparative historical, system-structural and civilizational approaches. The research is based on the principles of historicism, integrity and objectivity. During the study of the problem, the following results were obtained: 1) the North Caucasus was considered as a territory with rich minerals necessary for the Russian economy; 2) the research of the Tersky region led to the discovery of the most valuable oil fields; 3) the industrial development of the region contributed to the emergence and further development of local industry, in particular, the oil production and refining industries; 4) the development of the oil industry complex based on the Grozny oil fields has had a positive impact on strengthening the position of the Russian economy in the world markets.
