Research on Brinell hardness measurement method based on three-dimensional point cloud data
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The traditional Brinell hardness testing method involves using a contour projector or an optical microscope to visually determine the edge of the indentation, and then measuring the diameter. However, with the advancement of technology, the use of cameras combined with image processing algorithms for indentation measurement has gradually begun to be applied to Brinell hardness indentation measurement. The technique can eliminate human error and provide more accurate measurement of the indentation edge. However, since image processing technology only analyzes on a two-dimensional plane, it cannot provide depth information of the object, which may result in neglecting issues related to hardness indentation edge measurement. To address this limitation, this article uses confocal microscopy to obtain three-dimensional morphology data of indentation, adding an analytical dimension to the traditional measurement methods, and further studies and analyzes the morphology characteristics of indentation and the position of the hardness result reference plane through point cloud data to obtain more accurate indentation hardness data.
